"A TRAVERS".
C'est une série réalisée entre Madagascar et le Sénégal 2012 -2013.
La série traite de "l'appartenance", ou plutôt de la non-appartenance.
Lorsque l'on voyage par exemple, l'on peut ressentir cette sensation.
Celle d'arriver sur une terre a laquelle on n'appartient pas.
Pour la plupart, c'est une sensation passagère car, ils ont un chez eux.
En tant qu'adopté la sociétés, remet toujours en doutes nos origines. Pour exemple;
Si je dis à une personne Suisse, que je suis Suisses également, on va me répondre avec un petit sourire en coin;
- " tu mens".
On nous refuse le droit d'appartenir a notre pays adoptif, pour cause de notre couleur de peau" par exemple.
La couleur ne "match" pas avec celle du continent. Le mensonge semble même "grotesque".
Si je croise un nigérian, que je lui dit que je suis également nigérianne . Sa réponse sera la meme que celle du Suisse.
- " tu ments".
On nous refuse le droit d'appartenir a notre terre de naissance, car on en est parti en laissant derrière nous l'aspect culturel. La personne ajoutera surement.
- " tu n'as pas l'air nigériane, tu ne te comporte pas comme une Nigérianne". ( ce qui est vrai d'ailleurs).
Le refus d'appartenance, est pesant, et peut habiter secrètement bons nombre de personnes ayant été adoptées.
La position de photographe, nous place en tout tant dans cet entre-deux. On est dans la scene, mais pas dans la composition de l'image finale.
Comme une brèche, entre présence et absence.
Comment représenter cette sensation, ce mal-être par le médium de la photographie?
Peut-être en mettant en relation, distance et proximité.
Il y a aussi la solitude due a cette place un peu special dans le société.

This series was shot between Madagascar and Senegal in 2012-2013.
The series deals with 'belonging', or rather not belonging.
When we travel, for example, we can feel this sensation.
That of arriving in a land where you don't belong.
For most, it's a fleeting sensation, because they have a home.
As adoptees, society always questions our origins. For example;
If I tell a Swiss person that I'm Swiss too, they'll smile back at me;
- "You're lying".
We are denied the right to belong to our adopted country because of our skin colour", for example.
The colour doesn't 'match' that of the continent. The lie even seems grotesque.
But if I meet a Nigerian, and I tell him that I'm also Nigerian. His answer would be the same as the Swiss.
- "You're lying".
We are denied the right to belong to the land of our birth, because we left the cultural aspect behind. The person will probably add.
- "You don't look Nigerian, you don't behave like a Nigerian". (which is true, by the way).
The refusal to belong is heavy, and can secretly inhabit many people who have been adopted.
The photographer's position places us in this in-between position.
We are in the scene, but not in the composition of the final image.
Like a breach between presence and absence.
How can we represent this sensation, this unease, through the medium of photography?
Perhaps by putting distance and proximity together.
There's also the loneliness that comes from having a special place in society.
